Spring Cleaning Checklist for 2022
It’s that time of the year again, springtime cleaning.
The weather is warming up, the days are getting longer, and we’re spending more time outdoors. While we would like to spend all our time outside, soaking in the sun, some work needs to get done first.
All winter long, we hibernated in our homes. However, all that hibernating may have made room for some neglect on our part.
There’s no need to worry! Some mess and dust are typical after a long winter. Keep reading to learn our tips for spring cleaning hacks and organizing—bring spring to your home this year.
Springtime Cleaning Breakdown by Room
Before you even start spring cleaning, you need to conceptualize how you will clean your whole house. Take each room one step at a time. Creating checklists and even setting aside a Spring-Cleaning Day for each room will help you get and stay organized.
When creating each spring-cleaning checklist, feel free to skip over areas you’ve recently cleaned and focus on the spaces that need some love and care.
While going through the clutter, simply sort everything into one of four categories:
- Trash
- Giveaway
- Store
- Put Away
Make Room for Your Spring Wardrobe
Spring cleaning is all about welcoming the warmer weather. You’ll want to switch out all your winter clothes and shoes for your spring and summer wardrobe. Wash any dirty clothes and send whatever you need to the dry cleaners.
Once you’ve taken all your winter clothes and shoes out of your closet, clean the floors and shelves while they’re empty.
When filling your closet with your spring and summer clothes, think about how you want to organize everything. Do you want to organize by color, product, or occasion? Make sure you also pay attention to which clothing items you no longer wear. Spring is an excellent time to donate your unwanted clothes and shoes!
Deep Clean Your Refrigerator and Pantry
First, thoroughly clean out your refrigerator and freezer. Take out all the contents and throw out anything spoiled. Take all shelving and storage containers out and wash them in your sink or bathtub.
Springtime is also an excellent time to clean your ice cube trays. Wipe down the sides of your refrigerator and the freezer. Then, put everything back in.
For the cabinets, you’ll want to follow a similar process. Take out all the food. Throw away expired items and donate any non-perishables that you don’t want. Before placing your food back into the pantry, clean and disinfect any shelves, racks, and storage containers.
Wash and Replace Household Linens for Spring
The first thing you want to do is wash your couch covers, pillowcases, and other linens that are used around your house. Launder the drapes in your bedrooms, dining room, and living room. Bring them to the dry cleaners if you can’t wash them yourself.
You’ll also want to wash your tea towels, kitchen towels, small rugs, bathroom mats, and bathrobes.
Now that you’ve cleaned all your linens, it’s the perfect time to switch them out for some more spring and summer-inspired décor. Now is not the time for fuzzy blankets and dark velvet pillows. Pick out light and bright colored fabrics for your drapes, bed sheets, tablecloths, and more that will help your spring-cleaning feel worth it.
Clean Your Windows
It’s springtime, so why wouldn’t you want to spring clean your windows and let the sunshine in?
Remove your window screens and vacuum them using a handheld attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Then, you’ll want to soak them in soapy water and rinse them. Use dish soap diluted in water and a microfiber cloth to clean your window.
Finally, spray on vinegar diluted in water and wipe the windows down with a clean towel to dry them. While you’re focused on your windows, make sure to clean off the window sills and frames and touch up any chipped paint.
Break Out the Spring and Summer Equipment
Incorporate seasonal chores into your spring-cleaning checklist, like cleaning the patio and patio furniture, into your spring-cleaning list to get them out of the way early.
Clean the grill, the outside of the windows, lawnmowers, and sports equipment and find the right places to store each item.
Setting up for spring and summer may seem like a hassle, but the earlier you get it done, the more you can enjoy the nice weather while it lasts.
